Spearing Spanish Mackerel by Lachie Cramsie

“Stoked”, is an understatement with landing this Spanish Mackerel off the Sunshine Coast. I’ve been putting in heaps of hours this season on the water and under water, and to finally get the opportunity to be close enough to one of these and to pull the trigger was amazing to say the least. I was trying so hard to stay calm and get a good shot on him, ended up not being able to get the headshot so had to go directly for the middle. And luckily enough I took the shot and went straight through the spine, stoning the fish. I was ready for chaos to break loose but it didn’t, I swam across to him underwater and bear hugged him all the way to the surface refusing to let go!  A few yells and screams and a struggle to get it in the boat, And it was done! Jumped back in the water with a smile on my face that I couldn’t get rid of till that night! Needless to say myself and friends have been well fed and are omega three levels are high! 🤙
